London’s largest street exhibition was unveiled in Mayfair’s Grafton Street this morning.
The “Urban Gallery” hosted on a supersize canvas spanning the exterior of number 1 Grafton Street is displaying an innovative piece of contemporary art by Alex Knell after his work was chosen in an online public vote.
The entries of 12 other finalists in the competiton, which was open to Royal Academy Schools students and former students, will also be displayed.
The winning piece is called We Are Our Future and Alex Knell was on hand at the unveiling this morning. Knell, who is a MA Fine Art student at the Royal Academy School, has created a piece that “examines the notions of hope and meaning, which the artist finds lacking in modern society.”.
The urban gallery is a result of a collaboration between the Royal Academy Schools and the international real estate company, Hines, who are developing the building as office space due for completion in 2010.
