Heywood Hill Extends Opening Hours For Christmas

Heywood Hill – specialists in old and new books – are opening late on the four Wednesdays before Christmas Eve, extending their closing time until 7pm. So take advantage of the extra shopping time and pop along on the evenings of November 26th, December 3rd, December 10th and December 17th to pick up an extra special present from this well regarded bookshop.
And if you’re one of those people that like to leave your Christmas shopping til the last minute – like me – then you will pleased to know that they are also staying open until 1.30pm on Christmas Eve.

Spirit of Christmas at Grosvenor Chapel

“The Spirit of Christmas” annual event, featuring candlelit music and readings will take place at Grosvenor Chapel on the 9th December at 7pm. It will be held in the presence of HRH Princess Michael of Kent and will include readings from Charles Dance, Michelle Dockery, Patrick Godfrey, Pamela Miles, Tim Pigott-Smith and Amanda Walker.
This will be a followed by a champagne reception at Thomas Goode. Tickets cost £35 for the concert, or £75 for the concert and reception. The concert takes place in aid of Grosvenor Chapel and HFT.

Quantum Of Solace at Mayfair Curzon

To mark the release of the latest James Bond movie, the Curzon cinema in Mayfair is getting into the 007 spirit. A special Bond themed cocktail selection has been prepared for the bar including “the elegant Cointreau of Solace, the seductive Mini Vesper and the unmissable Licence Tequila”.
Royal boxes are available to hire to watch the film in style and you’ll be served with a free round of cocktails. They’ve also teamed up with the Washington Mayfair hotel to offer you a great price on a meal before or after the screening.

Major Handel Exhibition Planned for 2009

2009 marks the 250th anniversary of the death of George Frideric Handel, and the Handel House musuem in Mayfair will be marking the event with a major exhibition.
Beginning in April and running through to October 2009, the exhibition at his former house at 25 Brook Street will include objects from the musuem’s own collection as well as important pieces being loaned to the exhibition from national musuems and private collections.
During Handel’s 36 years living at the Georgian house, he composed some of his most famous and acclaimed works including Messiah.

Byzantium Treasures Coming To Royal Academy

The Royal Academy of Arts has announced a new exhibition which will showcase important Byzantium treasures. Around 300 objects from the Byzantine empire, including icons, detached wall paintings, micro-mosaics, ivories, enamels plus gold and silver metalwork, some of which have never been on public display before.
The show will run from 25th October to 22 March 2009 in the RA’s Main Galleries. For more information, goto the Royal Academy website.
